Happy summer(ish) from Goodwill

Writing this in May with strong winds and cold nights it doesn’t feel like summer yet. Several new things to announce this month:

New service, ‘a Gesture of Goodwill’

Enclosed with this copy of the Village Link Magazine is a flyer announcing the start of a new Goodwill service, ‘a Gesture of Goodwill’. We are offering this gesture of kindness to residents of our four villages - Wrestlingworth, Cockayne Hatley, Eyeworth and Tadlow - who are facing a new long-term or terminal illness. The gift will be tailored to the individual’s needs, be that some goodies, a

treatment, a treat trip out, or similar. Please do contact us if this is suitable for you or a friend/relative in our villages.

New event - Children’s Disco

On Saturday, 19 September, Goodwill will be hosting a free children’s disco in the Wrestlingworth Memorial Hall. There will be entertainment, hotdogs and squash, and best of all, it’s entirely free for children aged 5-15 from our villages. Please do email Goodwill to register for your child’s free place.

Relaunched Books and Beyond Grant

For many years, Goodwill have offered support to young residents aged 16+ who are starting on the next step of their education - college, university or apprenticeship. We are relaunching (see flyer) as the ‘Books and Beyond Grant’, offering support with books, course equipment, contribution to course fees, or whatever you might need. Applications are open from now until September and there is a simple application form to complete with details of what you need and evidence of

starting college, apprenticeship, university, etc.

Big Breakfast

The next Goodwill event is our popular Big Breakfast on Sunday 31st May from 9-12am in the Wrestlingworth Memorial Hall. There’s a wide choice of breakfast items, full cooked English, cereal, toast, pancakes, croissants and more. No fixed price list, just make a donation. See separate flyer in this magazine,

Goodwill Quiz

Thank you everyone who came and supported the Goodwill Quiz in April, we had a packed hall with 11 tables battling it out to be crowned quiz winner with quiz rounds as diverse as Nature, Easter, Music as well as Dingbats and Chocolate picture rounds. ‘Fromage’ and last year’s winner ‘Scumbag College’ vied for the lead all the way through, only being pipped to the post and coming joint second to team ‘Scribblers’ who won by just one point. The Quiz raised a fantastic £470 for Goodwill funds - thank you everyone who came and supported us. The next Quiz will be around October-time.

Summer Fete

We are well advanced with booking sideshows and entertainment for the Goodwill Summer Fete which will be held on Saturday, 5 September in the Amenity Field behind the Chequers. Central ring entertainment includes the popular Dog Show, Tug of War and Music and there will be lots of side shows and stalls as well as tea and cake and the BBQ. We will be visiting every house in the four villages in August with programmes, raffle tickets and details of the children’s colouring and cake

baking competitions.
