Hello from the Wrestlingworth Goodwill Fund Firstly by the time you read this we will have had our Autumn Quiz in the Village Hall. We hope you were there, but if not, we’ll be holding the next one in the Spring, probably March-time, and will of course advise of details nearer the time. We’re delighted to report that we had a number of applications for the 16+ Resource Award and were able to help 5 young people in our villages of Wrestlingworth, Cockayne Hatley, Tadlow and Eyeworth as they start out in apprenticeships, college or university. The grants we provided enabled these students to buy books, IT equipment and other course essentials as they further their education. We will be opening the Resource Award scheme again in late summer 2024 for next year’s students. Goodwill is also very pleased to be able to report that thanks to the generosity of everyone who supported Goodwill this year through the Quizzes, the Summer Fete and Raffle, we have been able to support the Wrestlingworth Lower School with the purchase of 8 new Chromebook laptops for the school. Together with additional Chromebooks that the PTA provided this means that there are now enough Chromebook laptops for every child in the class to have one each. After a number of delays we are excited to report that we are now able to restart the Goodwill volunteer “ambulance” service that we sadly had to stop during the Covid pandemic. This service uses volunteer drivers to offer lifts to the doctors or hospitals for those who would otherwise find it difficult to travel. We know this was a particularly popular service and we are delighted to be able to be starting it again. The service is provided free to local residents in our area and Goodwill reimburses the volunteer drivers for their petrol and any car parking charges incurred. As we restart the service we are looking for additional volunteer drivers so if you think you can help us, even if only occasionally, then please call Geoffrey on 07720 805620 or email info@wrestlingworthgoodwillfund.org.uk. 15 And finally, we have heard from the big man in the red coat that Santa will be visiting our villages just before Christmas. He will be in his sleigh delivering presents to our pensioner residents, and if you’ve been good, he may well have something for the children as well! We are reliably informed that he will be visiting Cockayne Hatley, Eyeworth and Tadlow on the afternoon of Sunday 10th December, and Wrestlingworth a week later on the afternoon of Saturday 16th December. Hope to see you there
